Client: Irish Rail
Project: M1 Northern Motorway, Drogheda Bypass
ABM Bridge System’s involvement in this project was to construct a railway over-bridge and motorway under-bridge at Lagavoren, a rural area situated just outside Drogheda town.
Ours was an alternative design to the specimen design. It was specifically aimed at facilitating simpler and speedier on-site construction.
The location of the site posed a number of challenges: it was positioned over a railway line, which in turn was positioned on an embankment that needed to be supported. The specimen design would have required the use of extensive sheet piling, whereas the ABM Bridge Systems design solution offered our client a greater clear span. In addition, because we created the infrastructure for twin rail tracks, Irish Rail will have the option to install these tracks at some future date should they decide to do so.
Other technical features of this structure include mechanically stabilised spandrel walls, wing walls and precast parapets.
The N8 Cashel to Mitchelstown forms part of the South West Corridor that links Limerick and Cork to Dublin and is to be upgraded to dual carriageway/ motorway standard.
continueSIAC–Ferrovial JV, as part of the Eurolink Consortium, were the successful bidders on this PPP Motorway Scheme extending from the end of the existing Clonee bypass to the Meath/Cavan border.
This Design & Build scheme consists of the construction of 40 km of high quality dual carriageway.
