Client: Westmeath County Council
Project: M6/M7 Kilcock to Kinnegad
Construction work on the 40 km Kilcock to Kinnegad stretch of motorway began in 2003. This €420 million public private partnership (PPP) project is being managed by the National Roads Authority as part of the €6 billion National Development Plan.
ABM Bridge Systems won the contract for the construction of six bridges on this route.
We designed and produced all six bridges in a period of just 12 weeks, with each bridge installation taking three days.
Key aspects of this project included the construction of two separate arch structures – one supporting the Galway-bound section of the motorway and the other the Sligo-bound section of the motorway – comprising precast spandrel walls and wing walls with feature finish.
The erection of the precast frame took two days. This short timeframe, combined with the fact that Opti Cadre underpass structures were used, enabled the main contractor to keep the road operational during the entire construction process.

ABM were recently called upon to participate in an urgent mission on the northern slope of the Chopok Mountain in the Low Tatras in Slovakia.
continueSkanska recently engaged ABM to fast-track installation works and obtain cost savings for a new railway bridge carrying a single-track railway from Štubňa to Prievidza over the new R3 expressway. The original proposal was based on an in-situ concrete abutment with a temporary steel bridge deck being used with a permanent deck of steel beams cast with a concrete infill. This involved long-term restrictions on traffic on the track and two full possessions.
