Client: Rhondda Cynon TAF
Project: Porth Relief Road, Station Street Bridge
This project involved the replacement of an existing failed bridge structure with a new Matiere Opti–Cadre 12,5metre x 6 Metre precast buried concrete box structure. This was an alternative to the specimen design which effectively reduced cost and construction programme. Off–Site construction helped to minimise resources devoted to other complex structures on the project.
This solution is a highly developed installation process using highly skilled in–house construction teams to lift heavy precast components around intricate and complex temporary propping system for the support of lateral abutments in the construction phase.
Five Days completed the installation of the entire bridge structure including the precast box and the retaining wing––walls extending on four sides up to 38metres in length.
The client obtained the lowest possible whole life cost solution with a saving in excess of 33% compared to the alternative bridge deck and abutment solution.
The new intersection Stupava was opened to public on the first of August 2011. It is the crossing of the old D2 with the new constructed D4.
The rail bridge RB01, which carries the rail line over a local farm road, is in close proximity of the main structure on this section, the bridge across the Maritca river. The bridge RB01 is replacing an old existing bridge at the end of its lifecycle which was confirmed by several borehole drills samples tested in a laboratory.
continueThe road bridge carries over a 2nd class road over a double rail electrified track. The existing bridge structure was a three span bridge of precast pre-stressed beams of the length 30m sitting on in-situ columns.
