Projects

Client: Irish Rail
Project: UB241 Wexford to Rosslare

The under–bridge constructed by ABM Bridge Systems replaced a bridge that was in need of immediate repair. Due to the high activity on the route, it was not possible to put the track out of commission for long periods of time while construction work was underway. For this reason, ABM had to build a number of the key structural components off site.

It took just three days to demolish the old bridge and install the new precast structure, which was a customised version of the Opti–Cadre portal configuration. It was designed in such a way as to ensure that upper element units formed the bridge deck. These were in turn supported on precast stretcher beams.
As a result of this approach, we were able to install the precast structure on each side of the rail embankment using pile–cap foundations, which had been constructed off–site in advance of the operation.
