ABM Design & Build secured contracts from the Department of Education & Science for the design and construction of a number of fastrack system build primary schools in rapidly developing areas in various locations.  These were part of the Minister’s plan to build 30 new primary schools in an effort to meet the rapidly increasing school population.

These contracts were secured against submissions from a large number of competing companies and the award was made to ABM on the basis of quality of design, value for money and speed of construction.  These were all critical criteria laid down in the prequalification requirements from the DOES.

The locations/details of the awarder contracts are:

16 Classroom Primary School
Porterstown Road, Blanchardstown, Dublin 15

8 Classroom Primary School
Monasterevin Road, Athy, Co Kildare

8 Classroom Primary School
Foxwood, Mountovel Rochestown, Cork

Schools at Porterstown Road, Blanchardstown and Athy are completed and work is under way on the construction of the System Build-8 classroom primary school Rochestown, Cork.

Pupils at the new Scoil Choilm Community National School, Porterstown Road, Kellystown, Dublin 15, entered their gleaming new classrooms on Monday, September 1st 2008 just 14 weeks from the date of the pouring of the ground floor slab back in May.

To achieve this fast track programme the building structure was manufactured off site using an insulated light gauge steel frame system which eliminated more traditional methods of construction such as in-situ concrete and block work.

Stairwell walls, stair flights, landings, plant room walls and lift shaft walls were also manufactured off site from pre-cast concrete.  The roofing consists of insulated Kingspan Kingzip roof panels.

Wherever possible, off site fabrication of other internal components was achieved such as pre-hung door/frame sets, internal wall partitions, kitchen cubicles and heating pipework runs.
