Pupils and staff of Scoil Choilm Community National School, Dublin 15 celebrated the official opening of their new school in the company of Minister for Finance, Mr Brian Lenihan, on Friday 22nd May 2009.

Constructed by ABM Design and Build, the school was one of multiple projects secured from the Department of Education & Science as part of their plans to provide 30 primary schools in rapidly developing areas. These contracts were secured against submissions from a large number of competing companies and the award was made to ABM on the basis of quality of design, value for money and speed of construction which allowed ABM Design & Build a 20-week on-site construction programme.

Fast-tracking this project required the adoption of innovative design and construction techniques, as more traditional methods could not meet the programme parameters.

The project was successfully completed, to much positive publicity, and handed over to the Department of Education & Science fully commissioned prior to the 1st September 2008 deadline with 250 pupils entering the school at the start of the new term. Parents, pupils and staff alike were delighted with their new school.

The School Principal, Treasa Lowe stated that:

“The school and its’ surroundings were well-designed and built to the highest standard. The building is a smart economic structure, built to be eco-friendly and maximise on natural light and heat. The pupils, parents and staff of the school are really proud of our beautiful new building and facilities.”

The success in completing the project within such a tight timeframe was a result of both the innovative approach used within the design and the project management skills employed on the project by ABM Design & Build - both in terms of the construction activities on-site and within the design co-ordination and procurement of labour and material.
