Scoil Choilm Community National School, Porterstown Road

16/09/2008

Pupils at the new Scoil Choilm Community National School, Porterstown Road, Kellystown, Dublin 15, entered their gleaming new classrooms on Monday last (September 1st 2008) just 14 weeks from the date of the pouring of the ground floor slab back in May.

To achieve this fast track programme the building structure was manufactured off site using an insulated light gauge steel frame system which eliminated more traditional methods of construction such as in-situ concrete and block work. This allowed the on-site works to the structure, including windows and roof, to be completed in 6 weeks.

Wherever possible, off site fabrication of the internal components were used such as pre-hung door sets, internal wall partitions, kitchens, cubicles, and heating pipe work runs.

This Project was one of 26 start-up primary schools in rapidly developing areas of the country that were prioritized for funding by the Department of Education and Science earlier this year.
