  • Description:
    ABM Europe is an international contracting and engineering firm, with its headquarters in Ireland. ABM is building a construction management team to execute a large scale infrastructure project, with significant mechanical and electrical elements. We wish to recruit a Senior Quantity Surveyorr to take commercial responsibility for the efficient delivery of this high profile and fast-track project to our client on budget without detriment to programme. The scope of work involves the construction of critical transport & utilities infrastructure, which will be an integral part of a major financial district development in Saudi Arabia; the project includes a reinforced concrete tunnel below an elaborate bridge viaduct, with associated mechanical and electrical works.

    Applicants should have extensive knowledge and experience in construction cost estimating and control and be very familiar with estimating and financial control software tools such as Buildsoft. The successful candidate shall have substantial experience in the construction industry and will be proactive in managing the commercial aspect of contracts in their dealings with designers, client project managers, and sub-contractors to maximise the benefit to ABM’s client. The role will demand a motivated individual who can demonstrate leadership in addition to the appropriate commercial experience relevant to this work. Candidates with experience in delivering large scale international projects, particularly in the Middle East, will have an advantage.

    This is a contract engagement for 12 months with attractive remuneration including a basic salary, bonus, allowance for housing and vehicle transport and medical insurance. Applicants should have a valid passport not due for expiry before 2012. 

    Core Functions:
    • Take direct responsibility for the preparation of project budgets and track and monitor progress and performance to ensure delivery of the works on budget.
    • Assist in the negotiation of contract terms and conditions with our client and the delivery of the works to fulfil our contract obligations.
    • Review the preparation and updating of detailed programme schedules for all phases and sections of the project with respect to cost control.
    • Monitor the allocation of resources and utilisation of materials on multiple phases of the project to ensure budgets are maintained.
    • Prepare valuation and cost control reports for the Contracts Manager.
    • Monitor activities of our client or his agents and manage the contract to ensure our best commercial position and limit our liabilities.
    • Ensure our client and sub-contractors are notified of the impact of variations i.e. scope, timing, cost control etc.
    • Participate in the negotiation of client Final Accounts.
    • Co-ordinate the selection and award of optimum supplier/ subcontract solutions.
    • Administrate subcontracts and monitor the progress of subcontractors to ensure compliance with the terms of their subcontract.
    • Apply subcontract terms and conditions where necessary and settle sub-contractors’ Final Account.

    Competences Required:
    • Excellent organisational and numerical skills.

In addition the candidate will have comprehensive experience and understanding of Quality Control systems, including ISO standards, to adapt, implement and maintain an appropriate management system for the site team.     • Supervise construction work on-site from a health & safety and quality control perspective.
