As it passes through Warwickshire, the busy M40 motorway runs between Warwick and Stratford upon Avon and Junction 15 has become a notorious traffic jam black-spot – so it’s getting its own by-pass (with the help of ABM Precast Solutions’ pre-stressed bridge beams)!
To relieve the rush hour pressure a major civil engineering project is currently underway to take commuter traffic between the two towns away from the motorway junction. To make all of this work, the north and southbound carriageways of the A46 need to cross over, a 93 metre long tunnel facilities this using 76 ABM ‘Y5’ prestressed beams, each over 23 metres long.
The beams were successfully delivered by ABM and installed by main contractor Morrison Construction over a 2 week period during May, taking the project to improve the traffic flow in the area one step closer.

The need to increase the rail gauge clearance to accommodate increased W10 size freight wagons recently led to the replacement of the traditional brick arch structure at Gipsy Lane in Nuneaton.
