ABM Precast Solutions have completed supply of three pre-stressed beam bridge structures (two river and one rail) to Birse Civils for the B1115 Stowmarket Relief Road.
The final bridge, the railway crossing, designed to ease an infamous level crossing traffic bottle-neck, provided a significant challenge. Extremely limited over-rail possessions and the need to rapidly establish a safe crossing led to the use of pre-stressed edge beams which not only had secondary cast-on stringcourses, but were also supplied with the steel containment parapet pre-fabricated on the modular units.
As was reported in our June Newsletter (’Capturing History in Concrete’), the ABM supplied parapets for the two crossings over the River Gipping feature a mural depicting the town’s agricultural and manufacturing heritage grit blasted on to their surface.

The need to increase the rail gauge clearance to accommodate increased W10 size freight wagons recently led to the replacement of the traditional brick arch structure at Gipsy Lane in Nuneaton.
