Project Details

This unique and elegant structure forms the crucial link between the new King’s Cross west plaza and the redevelopment of the former Eastern Goods Yard as a new College of Art and Design campus along with retail areas, leisure facilities, offices and public spaces. The constraints of canal span and clearance together with required ground levels led to a unique post-tensioned beam construction with units having a depth to span ratio of only 0.03. In addition to the technical challenges presented, the scheme’s architect chose to create an iconic connection to the development by forming a picture frame portal over the canal and using decorative ribbed feature on the beam soffits.
